Femi Akinde

SlimTrader, Founder

In 2009, Femi resigned as Senior Finance Manager at Microsoft to start SlimTrader, the first mobile commerce firm in Africa that allows the querying of a retailer’s inventory using text messages. Based on the results of this search, consumers can then purchase goods or services and make payments using mobile money via one of SlimTrader’s partners: M-PESA, Airtel, or MTN Mobile Money. This is an invaluable service in countries that lack basic infrastructure, including broadband internet access, where long commutes are often the only alternative for conducting basic transactions. SlimTrader has had a string of early successes and is currently fully operational in the transportation and agriculture sectors.

Femi has worked in a variety of high-level capacities at some of the most respected telecommunications and software firms in the world, including Gateway Communications, AT&T, and T-Mobile. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from the University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business.
